Whereas the previous decade created an almost boyish shape in women, the Thirties saw a return of femininity. Women's clothes accentuated their curves, and dresses had natural waistlines and longer skirts.

Young boys often wore short pants called "knickers" or "knicker-bockers". They graduated to long pants when they got older, and this was more or less seen as a rite of passage. It was also not uncommon for boys to wear ties.
